2007-08

John Law became President, our International President was Wilfred J Wilkinson, District Governor was Rob Lloyd and Assistant District Governor was again George Bedson.

This year was a year of change as District requested clubs to adopt the new structure that was to be mandatory in three years time.  This meant the old portfolios were abandoned for new one and some readjusting of mind set was required, but overall everything went well.

We started the year with 24 members, but soon lost two due to their inability to commit the time to meetings, fundraisers workings bees, etc.  On the plus side we inducted one new member during the year and another at the changeover, leaving us to start the 2008-09 year as we began.

In August we received our exchange student Anna Zoechbauer from Austria.  In January 2008 we welcomed back our outbound exchange student Rebecca Bridges from Brazil.

During the year the club did a number of new things:

  • We started our Cleanup the Highway project July 2007, and have continued this every three months.  This is a project that will be ongoing well into the future.
  • In October a group of members went to the Rotary Club of Fitzroy to cement a relationship that has developed over many years as a result of Arthur Hawkes former membership with that club.
  • In November many male members of the club for the first time took part in Movember, raising over $8,000 for men’s health.
  • In May, 5 rotarians, 2 partners and 4 friends went to Vanuatu on a RAWCS project to work on the primary school at Port Villa.  We all had a great time doing the work and enjoying a lot of fellowship as well.

The club also participated in its usual programs of catering for the military vehicles, race gates, and the Giving Tree at Boothman’s IGA (which saw 45 Christmas Hampers given away to needy families in Corowa.

In March the club hosted the Finland/Estonia GSE team, to great effect and this was helped in no small way by Stephen Apps, as he recently been a visiting GSE member to their countries.

We again gave away two $2,500 tertiary scholarships to Corowa High School students to assist in their ongoing studies.

The club again contributed $US100 per member to Rotary Foundation, with the contributions being attributed to each member’s individual account.

Total donations for the year were $23,797.

The changeover saw Rotarian Graham Brown presented with a Paul Harris Fellow and Rotarian Gordon Gyles presented with a Sapphire PHF.
